REALLY HUGE NEWS: Melodores Win 3rd Place at ICCA Finals in New York City!

The Melodores have an exciting announcement. Last weekend the Melodores flew to New York City and competed in the ICCA finals. Up against the top 5 groups from across the US and the champion of the UK, the Melodores wowed judges and fans alike, placing 3rd overall in a strong field of competitors. The 2nd place team, Vocal Point from Brigham Young University, won the competition in 2006, while the champions Pitch Slapped from Berklee College of Music finished in 2nd place last year.
The Melodores were picked to start the show, performing a twelve-minute set that started with the energetic "How Low," shifted to a heavy "Strange Fruit" followed by a more hopeful "Change is Gonna Come," and ended with the eerie rock song "Supermassive Black Hole." The strong set apparently hit home for the judges, who picked the Melodores as the third best collegiate a cappella group in the world. The choreography for the set was also a hit, as Ben Edquist won an individual award for Best Choreography of the night.
The Melodores are the youngest group to ever advance to the finals, and the only group from Tennessee to ever do so. The Melodores' 3rd place finish is an exciting accomplishment, to say the least.

HUGE News: CARA Nomination and ICCA Quarterfinal Win!

Big news in the Meloworld. Firstly, the Melodores' cover of Eric Whitacre song "Sleep" was nominated for a 2011 CARA for "Best Classical Song!" Considering the CARAs are basically the Grammys of the a cappella world, that's a pretty cool thing.

Second: this past weekend the Melodores traveled to Athens and came out with a 1st place standing and Best Choreography Award in the ICCA Southern Quarterfinals! There were a lot of great groups there. The Melodores will be traveling to South Carolina on March 19th to compete in the ICCA semifinals. Lots of practice between then and now!

Melodore Releases Hit Single to Vandy Community

[EDIT: New link to the official music video! Melodores Shane Stever and Brandon Goodman were the producers behind that - great job guys!]

Not to throw Nick Wells in y'all's faces over and over again, but he just keeps releasing gold. Or in this case, "Black & Gold" - a VU remake of the hit Wiz song "Black & Yellow." So far it's got over 6,000 views on Youtube, which is not bad considering that's the size of the entire VU undergrad student body! Keep it coming, Nick.
